Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Advanced Sedation Dentistry and typical sedation dentistry?
Most sedation dentists use only pills or inhaled gasses for relaxation. At Advanced Sedation Dentistry, we offer the entire range of sedation for those whose fears or medical conditions require a higher level of treatment. Would you prefer to be totally unconscious? Have no memory of the treatment? We can offer you both of these options, and more.
Who can benefit?
Practically anyone – children and adults – who fears dental treatment is a candidate. If you are anxious, have trouble with gagging or sitting still, are highly sensitive or have difficulty getting numb… sedation dentistry could change your life. Those with medical conditions or behavioral, physical or mental challenges also find sedation dentistry extremely beneficial.
What medications are used?
Dr. Futerman will recommend one or a combination of sedatives (relaxants) and anesthetics (painkillers) to meet your individual needs. By having access to the entire range of medications, Dr. Futerman can change your level of sedation before or during treatment to ensure your complete comfort.
Is it safe?
Although all procedures carry some risk, anesthesia has been successfully used for many years in dentistry. A board-certified dental anesthesiologist, Dr. Len Futerman has completed years of advanced training including a full anesthesiology residency. You will be carefully monitored, enjoying all the safety of a hospital in the comfort of our office setting.
Is it affordable?
Many patients find sedation is covered by their insurance. We work with a wide range of insurers and are happy to assist you by filing insurance. Patients whose sedation is not covered by insurance find that the costs associated are a reasonable price to pay for peace of mind and a positive treatment experience.
