CEREC is a dental restoration system that enables your dentist to design, fabricate, and place a crown in a single appointment. It eliminates the need for messy impressions, temporary crowns, return visits, or a second injection.
What Are Same-Day Crowns?
With CEREC technology, we can create and place crowns in our office in one appointment. The custom-made crown is designed to perfectly fit your tooth and blend in beautifully with your natural smile. No longer will you need to wear a temporary crown in the meantime while you wait for your permanent restoration to be crafted in a lab. No uncomfortable impression material is needed, either!
Your dentist will create a digital impression of your teeth using advanced camera technology. Then, the imaging software creates your dental crown design right on the screen in front of you. Your doctor can make any necessary adjustments to the size, shape, and color of your crown to match your smile perfectly. Once you’re satisfied with the results, we will design, create, and place your permanent crown at your appointment. In about one hour, you can leave our office with a new natural-looking crown that fits into your smile seamlessly.
Same-day crowns offer many benefits. They provide you with a permanent restoration in a single appointment without the need for temporary restorations or unpleasant impressions. Plus, they’re fabricated from high-quality ceramic materials that are designed to look natural and last a long time with regular care. In addition to saving time compared to traditional dental crowns, same-day crowns can help preserve more of your natural tooth structure than other types of restorations. Additionally, since they do not require any temporary restoration to wear between appointments, they do not make any unnecessary changes to the position of your teeth or affect your bite pattern.
How Is A Same-Day Crown Made?
First, the tooth is prepared to receive a crown by removing any decay and shaping it to fit inside the new restoration. Because CEREC uses digital impressions, this process is more precise than traditional methods that rely on messy impression materials. The dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth. This will be sent to a machine called a CAD/CAM machine, which uses computer software to create the crown. Once the design is approved, the manufacturing process begins. The milling machine creates your new crown from a solid block of ceramic material in just a few minutes. Finally, the dentist will place the crown in your mouth to check that it fits comfortably within your bite. Once approved, the crown is bonded in place, leaving you with a new-looking tooth that requires no waiting!
